Sustainable innovations in the Home

New high-tech gadgets and systems designed to reduce our domestic carbon footprint.

Building back better

One of the legacies of the coronavirus pandemic will be an increased focus on sustainability and a global call to action to tackle the climate crisis. The latest innovations for the home have combined emerging technologies with clever design to support hygiene, health and wellbeing, remote working and a domestic digital ecosystem – but those that also play to the green agenda have additional appeal for the contemporary consumer.

The Future of the Home trend report, produced by Aritco and Springwise, champions sustainable innovations that reduce our domestic carbon footprint. These include a low-energy ceiling fan that cleans the air of infectious viruses, windows that act as solar panels and keep buildings cool, and an infared heater that uses 30 per cent less energy than traditional systems.

Domestic innovations to build back better

As many prominent scientists have linked the current pandemic with climate change, sustainability and the climate crisis have become the single most important issue for all of us. Whilst driving, flying and consuming less and recycling more will help us reduce our individual carbon footprints, the biggest impact will come from modifying our homes.

Up to 40% of carbon emissions in western countries come from households, and the majority of this is down to heating and electricity use. Whilst new homes are being built with better insulation, and often include clean energy innovations like solar panelled roofs, most of us will need to manage our energy consumption more carefully, particularly as home working will no doubt increase dramatically after the pandemic.

Reducing waste and recycling

Sustainability is one of our core values at Aritco, and we are constantly striving to reduce the carbon footprint of our products. We’ve modified our packaging and distribution resulting in lower CO2 emissions, all our lifts are 95% recyclable and they consume less energy annually than a dishwasher or a washing machine.
