A Custom-Designed Lift for a One-of-a-Kind Home
With its custom DesignWall, the Aritco HomeLift in Villa Alsvik became a design focal point, meeting accessibility requirements without compromising the home's striking look.

The background
Petra and Jakob designed and built their dream home, Villa Alsvik, in Roslagen, a scenic coastal area in Sweden. Designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings, the 300-square-meter multi-level house incorporates modern materials and large windows to allow light to flow throughout. To maximize their views of the forest and nearby lake, they put the kitchen and common area on the second floor. However, due to Swedish construction laws, the kitchen must be on the ground floor or accessible for those with limited mobility. Not wanting to sacrifice their one-of-a-kind panoramas, the couple decided installing a home lift was the only solution.
The lift
After researching options, Petra and Jakob chose the Aritco HomeLift. Their contact at Aritco assisted in navigating legal requirements so the couple could focus on personalizing their lift to match their carefully designed home, selecting a black model with glass walls, which seamlessly integrated into their modern Scandinavian home design. The couple even customized their DesignWall with a striking clockwork design that made it a key aesthetic element in their meticulously designed home. The golden clockwork image on the dramatic black background is eye catching while also fitting in perfectly with the industrial elements of the villa.
The result
Though they initially installed the Aritco HomeLift merely to meet legal requirements, the couple now uses the lift daily. It’s made moving between floors easier and more efficient, especially when carrying groceries or managing household tasks. “Thanks to the lift, we also frequently make use of the glass room, situated on the rooftop, as it is so easy to get to with food and fika” Jakob explains. Guests were also impressed by the lift’s sleek look, making it a conversation starter. “Everyone mentions the lift! It is a detail, an art piece that you just have to gaze at,” says Petra. Villa Alsvik has been featured in the popular TV series “Grand Designs Sweden”.
