5 misconceptions about the cost of a home lift

Aritco Sales Manager Adrien Gadoin dispels the common misconceptions around the cost of installing a home lift.

How much does an Aritco home lift cost? Probably less than you think. We spoke with Adrien Gadoin, Sales Manager – France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland – at Aritco to dispel some of the most common misconceptions homeowners have about the cost of installing a lift in their home.

1. A home lift is a luxury item, so it must be really expensive

While it’s true that a lot of attention is paid to the quality and design of our Aritco home lifts, they aren’t created to be luxury items. They’re created to provide convenience and safety, two things that should be accessible not only to the wealthy. Therefore, Aritco offers a range of home lifts – from compact and simple to design-forward works of art – that are customizable to fit your needs and budget.

“All our home lifts are almost fully customizable because we want them to be able to fit into any type of house. I would say 80% is customizable. You can decide whether you want them in this color or that size. Do you want an automatic door? A double door or just one big single door? And there are a bunch of add-ons as well like a phone, remote control, DesignWalls and designer flooring. In all, there’s a pretty wide range of options,” Adrien explains.

2. Upkeep will be expensive

There’s a saying that a boat is like a hole in the water you throw your money into because the maintenance cost is so high. This is not at all the case for Aritco home lifts. In fact, maintenance costs are generally low thanks to a couple of factors.

Aritco is the first in the industry to offer a 5-year product warranty on all our lifts, as well as a 10-year warranty on the drive technology. This means your primary expense would be the regular maintenance stipulated in the service agreement you create with your local service partner. The service intervals vary based on regional legislation as well as the individual policies of our partners.

In addition, the new Aritco SmartLift app helps reduce overall maintenance costs.

“The Aritco Smart lift app allows our partners to perform predictive maintenance and even do some remote maintenance. That means the homeowner can go on the app and see, okay, this part seems not to be working. They can then contact the service provider who might be able to give advice over the phone on how to solve the problem. They won’t have to pay for a service visit or spend a day waiting for a technician.

“It also provides real-time data so our partners can set service intervals based on actual use instead of just projections,” Adrien says.

3. A home lift will run up the electricity bill

Aritco home lifts do run on electricity, but our unique lift drive technology keeps consumption surprisingly low. This not only benefits our customers but is part of our commitment to making sustainability.

“Of course, you will be using a bit more electricity than before. But it’s not a significant increase. In the latest studies we conducted, having an Aritco lift in your house is like having a second washing machine or dishwasher.”

4. I’ll have to pay out of pocket

Depending on your location and personal situation, there are various financing options available to help you cover the cost of your Aritco home lift. In some cases, local governments will even subsidize a home lift when installed to provide accessibility for a household member with limited mobility.

In addition, our certified partners often offer individualized financing options. They are experts in local subsidies, deductions, and available financing options and can guide you through your options.

“I’ve only worked in the French-speaking market, but I’m pretty confident that in any market, a one-time cash payment is definitely not the only way to pay for a home lift. When I look at one of our partners in France, a small family-owned company, they really listen to the customer’s needs. Their goal is to work with them to figure out a way in which we can equip their house in the best way possible,” Adrien says.

5. It will make it harder to sell my home

Quite the opposite, actually. A home lift can increase the value of your home by up to 10%. And unlike a stair lift, an Aritco home lift isn’t just for people with limited mobility. It’s useful to anyone living in your home now or in the future and becomes an integral part of your home’s interior design.

“You have to look at the lift as not only a lift or a piece of equipment that you put into your house. An Aritco home lift is an investment, and it will always add value to your house,” Adrien explains.

“They are for everyone. Every age. If you have kids or pets, heavy groceries or strollers. I’m 30 years old, and when I enter my building – I live on the fourth floor – I often take the lift. It’s the same if you have a multi-story home.

“And for people with mobility issues, the options are to spend almost as much on a stair lift, which will likely need to be removed if you want to sell the house, or to change the whole configuration of the house you’ve been living in for years or decades.

“Our home lifts don’t take up much space so you can keep the architecture of the house and the configuration of all the rooms. And by doing that, you still get this feeling of being at home.

I think that’s an important thing for people to feel like they are still living in the home they’ve always lived in,” he concludes.

Our latest product, the Aritco HomeLift Compact can cost as little as €15,000 depending on your country. Keep in mind that taxes, installation, and delivery are also added. The easiest way to find out a cost for a lift that covers your needs and wishes, is to contact us and have us send you an estimate.
